Respect your readers, and the bloggers

Mutual Respect Summarizing in few words how BlogUpp! service works: each reader of your blog automatically triggers for it to be promoted, i.e. your blog's thumbnail and your latest article are shown in the widget to potential readers on other blogs. You just take care of your content, focus on blogging, and your readers will reward you for sharing your thoughts with them. Isn't that simple, natural and great, both for the reader and the blogger? We think this is how the Internet could become even a better place for all of us.

As you've probably noticed, we at BlogUpp! are not imposing conditions on using the widget. Particularly we don't tell you where to place it, but rather rely on common sense. Just think of the place on other blogs where you'd want a potential reader to see the window of your blog (this is one way how we refer to our widget). We think this way too when reviewing all the submitted blogs, and presume everyone is thinking the same. It's a matter of respect and ethics.

Beside the quality of the blog itself, the position you place the widget at is important for us. We give higher priority to those being fair with the community. On the other hand, those having the widget positioned too low, not having it visible completely or even hidden, and with poor content - are candidates for being rejected by us. We allow some time (a number of days) for the blogger to make the adjustments, and if that is not happening we are seriously considering the rejection. That is a measure to ensure the quality of our community of blogs, and we hope you all understand it.

Your should also know that we refer several levels of quality while considering the blogs for approval. Higher quality blogs get promoted on alike, while those with lower and not rejected by us get respectively promotion on similar quality blogs.

Even after approving a blog's submission, we do constantly track the behavior of the widget on it, and that could result in suspending or even rejecting it when appropriate. In the list of the new features to be provided by BlogUpp! is the possibility to rate up or rate down the blogs displayed in the widget. That will also support all of us have a community in which quality and mutual respect are valued.

You too can suggest features that would make the service better and at the same time keep it simple and light for everyone.

Wish all of you enjoy your blogging and discovering those new connections with BlogUpp! service.

just a quick question, how long does it take for BlogUpp! to look at and either approve or reject a blog?

Arjun, thanks for asking. We are checking the submissions constantly during a day. So, for a blog with quality content, which is not adult, gambling, illegal (like warez) and with appropriate content, the approval can happen in minutes, or within 24 hours.

without having any figures of how many visitors clicked blogupp! thumbnail from my blog, how can I judge the position where I have put the thumbnail is proper or not.....

Concerning the position, simply try behaving as a common reader of your blog. Obviously if the widget is in the footer, it won't reach your eyes. If your readers come to check only for newer posts, and the widget is not in line with them, it won't reach their eyes as well. Respectively the bloggers sharing their blogs on yours are not treated correctly and we at BlogUpp! are implementing techniques to treat adequately those non-favored placements.

As for the stats issue, we've given answers in our earlier posts; there will be made available own BlogUpp! stats module. However we recommend checking for adv.blogupp.com the referrer section in the stats tools that you are already using and which you are accustomed with.

So far (nearly a day) I've only had three sites appear in the widget on my blog: Techcrunch, Mashable and BlogUpp.

Is that normal?

Yes Michael, it is normal.
To provide quality blogs in the widget for the community, we must check them all. As long as your blog is not reviewed and approved by us, your widget will have the middle bar of grey color, and display only default impressions in English (not in blog's actual language). Once it becomes approved, the widget will show blogs in your language, and the middle bar will become blue.

Normally we do review and approve blog submissions within 24 hours during working days. If there's any delay, we apologize, and we'd like to assure you that sooner or later every blog that meets our simple policy and has quality and sufficient content (not just few posts), is welcomed and gets approved.
One main reason for the delay (apart from quality and widget position issues) could be that, for example, a blog shows up in our records on a specific date, i.e. a code is generated for it, but the widget is added on the blog after a number of days. We do check each submission for several days in sequence, and if the widget hasn't been placed on it, that enrolls the blog in a waiting list, which we are re-checking at a lower frequency.

Nevertheless, your blog was approved since several hours and it should be promoting you already, i.e. your blog is displayed as well in the widget somewhere else in the community, and if the readers find it and your article attractive, they will visit you. Hence we encourage everyone to focus on quality content, and we'll support in promoting it as easy for you as it can be.

One more thing we'd like to add for everyone; when you have a specific issue that is related only to your weblog, please consider sending an email to us (from our main page), and we'll be able to be of more help to you.

Wish you to enjoy your blogging!

If my blog was rejected, how can I re-apply it ?

Thanks.

@nhc1987: Thanks for asking.
We welcome everyone who feels a blog was rejected by mistake to contact us directly (by email) to clarify which was the reason, and resolve the issue where it is possible.

Particularly in the case of http://themelib.com/ the reason for it not being approved was that the size of the widget was modified manually, thus making it not fully visible. We hope you understand that it was a normal measure to take.
Should you reconsider your submission, and keeping the original size, we'll proceed to re-auditing your blog.

Thanks for understanding.
